As more companies switch from over-the-road shipments to intermodal, there's a need for docks at distribution centers to modify their operations to accommodate the differences in equipment used.
Rite-Hite, for its part, has created a new vehicle restraint, Dok-Lok SHR-5000, which uses a "shadow hook" to secure not only traditional trailers but also intermodal container chassis and trailers with rear-impact guard obstructions.
When the Dok-Lok SHR-5000 is activated, the hook attempts to wrap around the rear-impact guard. If the hook is obstructed, the shadow hook pivots to secure the trailer in place. If the trailer moves, the shadow hook locks in the safety stop, which helps prevent trailer separation accidents.
