More than 6,000 employees of TNT Logistics North America hit the pavement last month for a walk to raise money for the United Nations' World Food Program. With each employee walking at least a half mile, the distance covered exceeded an aggregate of 3,150 miles. Each participating employee solicited pledges from sponsors—people within the TNT organization, family and friends as well as suppliers and vendors.
"TNT Logistics North America has made a commitment to give back to those in the world less fortunate,"says Dave Kulik, TNT Logistics North America's CEO, explaining the genesis of the program. As for the distance ch osen? "TNT's contracts stretch from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Boston, Mass.; therefore, we selected 3,150 miles—the distance from Seattle/Vancouver to Boston via Toronto—as our goal."
Besides raising money, TNT hopes the one-day challenge will raise awareness for the World Food Program. Walk Across North America is part of a global effort sponsored by TNT Logistics' parent company, TPG N.V., which has entered into a five-year partnership with the United Nations' World Food Program to help in the global fight against hunger.
