Schneider's Freight Theft Record Exemplifies Exceptional Commitment to Cargo Security

Results demonstrate ongoing commitment to eliminating freight thefts

GREEN BAY, Wis. (June 28, 2016) — Thieves never sleep, which means shippers and carriers need to stay vigilant to protect their cargo and avoid thefts. Schneider, the premier transportation and logistics provider, is a proven industry leader in security and cargo safety. The carrier, which moved more than 3 million loads throughout the course of last year, is proud to announce that it achieved 99.999 percent theft-free loads in 2015.

For maximum security, Schneider incorporates multiple overlapping elements, with both carrier and shipper working together from beginning to end for truckload and intermodal moves. Intermodal freight movements require a few additional security steps (including working with the railroads and ramp security to heighten protective efforts), but the focus on overlapping safety components to keep loads secure remains the same. Multiple technologies, procedures and training provide a multilayered approach that strengthens the supply chain and achieves near-zero cargo theft results.

"The technologies and processes we employ to keep freight safe are absolutely best-in-class, but our secret weapon is the careful and observant driver force we have behind the wheel of every load," noted Brian Bobo, vice president of enterprise security. "Schneider drivers' skill-sets are kept sharp through a three-prong approach: We thoroughly train during on-boarding, we regularly communicate the locations and types of thefts that are occurring industry-wide and we incorporate theft prevention techniques into our quarterly training sessions."

CargoNet, the leading cargo theft prevention and recovery company, notes that Schneider's commitment to minimizing freight theft is a great accomplishment.

"Schneider continues to lead by example with their layered approach to cargo security," says Anthony Canale, general manager at CargoNet. "Through their understanding of technology, intelligence and application of cargo theft trend data, they truly have a unique safety and security application. Their use of CargoNet's theft prevention and recovery network is just one example of their commitment to securing their customers' freight. We are honored to be a part of Schneider's continued success."

According to CargoNet's annual theft trend analysis, the industry as a whole suffered 890 cargo theft incidents, averaging $185,297 per lost load in 2015.

Other key takeaways from the report released by CargoNet include:
• Food and beverage items were once again the most stolen commodity, equaling 28 percent of all incidents and up from 22 percent in 2014
• The next-highest categories, electronics and household, each accounted for 13 percent of stolen items
• The average loss value of truckload thefts of pharmaceuticals in the industry increased by 48 percent (Schneider has not had a pharmaceutical load theft since 2004)
