JAXPORT sets container volume record in July

August 28, 2018
No Comments

JAXPORT has recorded its best ever July container volumes, with total container movements increasing 17 percent over the same period last year. Nearly 97,250 twenty-foot equivalent units (or TEUs, the industry standard for measuring containers) moved through JAXPORT in July 2018.

The port's Asian container volumes continue to show significant growth, up 11 percent year-to-date with 344,730 TEUs moved so far in Fiscal Year 2018. JAXPORT's fiscal year runs Oct. 1- Sept. 30. During the past five years, JAXPORT has recorded an average of 21 percent annual growth in Asian container volumes. The deepening of Jacksonville's shipping channel to 47 feet to accommodate even more cargo aboard the largest ships is well underway.

JAXPORT's Puerto Rican volumes are up 33 percent to date in FY2018 with more than 600,970 TEUs moved. As the primary U.S. port for commercial trade with Puerto Rico, JAXPORT and its partners continue to supply aid to the residents following Hurricane Maria's devastation in September 2017.

Last year, JAXPORT and private users of the harbor moved more than 1.3 million TEUs, making Jacksonville the No. 1 container port complex in Florida.
