Pelican BioThermal Commits to Support Diabetes Research and Awareness

Pelican BioThermal Commits to Support Diabetes Research and Awareness

Pelican BioThermal, the global name in cold chain, announces a company-wide philanthropic initiative to support diabetes awareness and research.

According to the American Diabetes Association, 29.1 million Americans (nearly 10% of the U.S. population) have diabetes and as many as 1.25 million of those have type 1 diabetes, requiring daily doses of insulin. The drug is not only costly, with prices rising steadily over the past decade, but to remain effective, insulin vials must also be kept cool—a challenge that Pelican BioThermal regularly addresses.

"Our products, including the Credo Cube™, are uniquely suited to maintain the temperature stability necessary to transport vital diabetic drugs. However, meeting temperature requirements for these drugs is only one component of an overall global health issue," explained Adam Tetz, director of worldwide marketing at Pelican BioThermal. "Contributing to research and raising awareness about diabetes, a condition which affects more than 400 million people worldwide, is critical."

Over the last year, Pelican BioThermal has participated in events with the American Diabetes Association, including participation in and sponsorship of the 2017 Twin Cities Tour de Cure, the organization's premier cycling fundraising event.

The temperature controlled packaging leader also partnered with "For A Piece Of Cake," a cycling challenge undertaken by riders Chiara Ricciardi and Riccardo Rocchi to help raise awareness of diabetes. Over the last year, Ricciardi, who has type 1 diabetes, and Riccardo covered a total of nearly 11,185 miles from Cesena, Italy to Singapore via bicycles. To maintain temperature stability of Ricciardi's vital diabetic drugs, Pelican BioThermal supplied the pair with their Cr?do™ ProMed, a robust, temperature controlled portable medical transport bag designed for emergency first responders and medical couriers to ensure delicate pharmaceuticals remain safely intact.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
