ITS Logistics announces consolidation into new Reno/Sparks campus

RENO, Nev. (February 1, 2015) — ITS Logistics will consolidate most of its business operations this summer into a 630,000-square-foot campus at 555 Vista Blvd. in Sparks, Nev. The new campus — which formerly housed General Motors — will allow ITS Logistics to move its corporate offices, five warehouse and distribution centers, and Reno/Sparks trucking operations under one roof.

ITS Logistics has signed a long-term lease and plans several million dollars in improvements to the facility. The campus will feature expansive new corporate office space and a dedicated transportation center, including operations, dispatch and a new driver's lounge with breakrooms, showers and restrooms. In addition, it will feature a large truck yard with easy access and more truck and trailer parking, and large indoor and outdoor meeting areas for the company. ITS Logistics's freight brokerage division, ITS National, will remain located in downtown Reno, but is also planning on expanding its operations with an official announcement coming later this month.

"It's an exciting time for ITS Logistics and the area we call home," said Jeff Lynch, CEO of ITS Logistics. "Our continued growth has allowed us to take this huge step forward and will still give us an additional 150,000 square feet to grow into. This new facility will allow us to continue our strategic growth into the e-commerce fulfillment, general commodities, and food-grade storage markets."

ITS Logistics is one of the fastest growing third-party logistics companies in the nation. A 2015 partnership with investment firms McNally Capital and Coughlin Capital to enhance the growth of the company highlights ITS Logistics's long-term stability in Reno, as well as its projected future expansion in other strategic markets throughout the country.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
