Amazon.com said this week it is well on its way to filling more than 100,000 holiday season jobs thanks to its October 2 $15 minimum-wage announcement.
The online retailer said it received more than 70,000 job applications for customer fulfillment roles just two days after announcing it would raise its minimum hourly wage to $15—and that it received more applications in the week following the announcement than it did in the entire month of August. Amazon is hiring full- and part-time employees across its network of fulfillment and delivery facilities to meet increased demand during the holiday season, the company said.
Amazon has sweetened the deal with a few other perks, too, including flexible shift opportunities, weekly paychecks for seasonal workers, and a new application process that helps match candidates to the right building and the right role in the company.
The results thus far also include a 180 percent increase in traffic to AmazonDelivers.Jobs, Amazon said. The company is holding job fairs nationwide, with special attention to hiring in California, Illinois, Washington, Kentucky, New Jersey and Florida where it says it has the greatest need for additional workers in fulfillment centers, sortation centers and delivery stations.
