DHL Global Forwarding, the air- and ocean-freight unit of German transport and logistics giant Deutsche Post DHL Group, said today it has launched a web-based sea freight tracking system.
Called "Ocean View," the platform consolidates information from DHL's Transportation Management System, the ocean carrier, and the vessel itself for near real-time visibility of ocean shipments, the company said. It also notifies users of any scenarios that may trigger route changes or delays. Ocean View does not require devices to be installed on the container, DHL Global Forwarding said.
"Providing our customers with easy access to track their shipments is a vital necessity for all shippers," said Andreas Krueger, head of ocean freight at DHL Global Forwarding, Americas, in a statement. "A recent survey by the unit found that low shipment visibility and transparency is a major issue for customers using door-to-door ocean transport.
