No one likes waiting around for traffic lights to change, least of all truck drivers. But they'd be better off just putting up with those fuel- and time-wasting delays than to follow the example of a Colorado driver.
Apparently fed up with waits at stoplights, that Colorado driver bought a device on eBay that changes traffic lights from red to green. Developed for use by firefighters and other emergency responders, the device, called an Opticon, is a strobe-like gadget that uses infrared pulses to jam traffic signals.
Eventually his luck ran out. Police caught him using the device and confiscated it. He was charged with interfering with a traffic signal and ordered to pay a $50 fine.
The driver, who said he had been using the device to cut his commuting time for two years, was philosophical about his loss. The Opticon only cost him $100, he told a local newspaper. "I guess in the two years I had it, that thing paid for itself."
