I.D. Systems and Jungheinrich team up on advanced telematics

Asset management solution provider I.D. Systems Inc. has partnered with material handling equipment provider Jungheinrich AG to develop an advanced telematics and fleet management system, the companies said today.

As part of the deal, Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey-based I.D. Systems will become the sole provider of the new platform for the large German lift truck vendor. The first units of the new platform have now started shipping.

According to the firms, the new system will help Jungheinrich customers run safer, more cost-effective logistics operations. "We at Jungheinrich are excited to offer our customers solutions that quickly and accurately monitor utilization, vehicle maintenance, damage, and safety compliance to accurately identify problem and improvement areas," Frank Marschatz, service director at Jungheinrich, said in a release. "Jungheinrich will also use the system to enhance their material handling equipment maintenance and service."

The platform is a response to increasing customer calls for more telemetry technology to help them understand who, how, and when their fork lifts and other equipment is being used, Mark Stanton, general manager of PowerFleet for Industrial at I.D. Systems, said in an email. The partners developed the new system based on an existing I.D. Systems product called PowerFleet Enterprise, that Jungheinrich will now be providing to its customers, he said.

Compared to Jungheinrich's existing fleet management system, Stanton says the new platform adds a comprehensive suite of tools, such as access control, automated impact management and reporting, pre/post use check lists to ensure safety of the equipment and operator(s), management reporting, dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and integration to the CAN.

By partnering with Jungheinrich, I.D. Systems is continuing a rapid string of growth in the sector, following its move in March to create a new firm called PowerFleet Inc. by raising $50 million in venture funding and acquiring the Israeli telematics and internet of things (IoT) provider Telocation Ltd. for $140 million.
