Entropy Solutions has introduced the Greenbox Thermal Management System, a first-of-its-kind temperature-controlled container capable of keeping contents at a consistent temperature for more than five days. Designed for the shipping of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and blood, the Greenbox reduces product spoilage and cuts shipping and distribution costs.
Because the Greenbox can maintain temperature for over five days, customers can ship via ground (versus overnight express), even on Fridays, resulting in significant cost savings. In addition, the reusable unit can cut a company's distribution and shipping expenses by more than 65 percent because a single Greenbox can be used 50+ times.
The Greenbox system is constructed of a durable plastic outer shell; Thermal-Lok insulation panels, which protect temperature-sensitive goods from external weather conditions; and E-Packs, which contain a combination of patented phase change materials. In a typical Greenbox, two sets of two different phase change materials simultaneously absorb and release heat?while one E-Pack liquefies, the other solidifies, providing a "thermostat effect." This happens continuously until the package reaches its destination. The maker claims that there is virtually no chance of product spoilage, an issue that cost the pharmaceutical industry $3 billion last year.
Greenbox is 100 percent recyclable and biodegradable. When the bright green outer shell and Thermal-Lok panels reach the end of their useful lives, they are ground down and made into new shells and panels. In addition, Greenbox features non-petroleum, non-toxic phase change materials?a first for the industry.
