Eaton Corp. has released CurrentWatch, a new family of current sensors and switches used to monitor the current flowing in a facility's electrically powered equipment. With models measuring up to 2,000 amps AC and 300 amps DC, CurrentWatch products are suited for applications requiring monitoring, protection, status, or alarming. Typical applications for CurrentWatch include detecting belt loss or slippage, mechanical failure, motor resistance breakdown, pump jams, and suction loss.
Most CurrentWatch models are self-powered, requiring no external power supply. Instead, the sensors create their own energy from the current being monitored, conditioning the signal to provide an analog output. The CurrentWatch family includes 120 different model styles.
