Kim Meccariello Named Director of Human Resources at RK Logistics Group

FREMONT, CALIF. - DECEMBER 5, 2018 -- RK Logistics Group, a Silicon Valley leader in third-party logistics (3PL), announced today that Kimberly Meccariello has joined the company as corporate director of human resources.

She joins RK with nearly 20 years of experience in design, development and management of human resources programs. "We're excited to welcome Kim to the RK family," said Rock Magnan, RK Logistics' president. "As we continue to grow the company, Kim's experience and expertise will ensure we have top-notch programs and resources for workforce management support, recruiting and engagement. We look forward to her leadership in this important area."

In her new role, Meccariello will be responsible for administering RK Logistics' human resources activities and programs, which encompass a network of 14 warehousing and distribution facilities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area with over 700 employees. Her primary focus areas will include human resources organizational design and development, process improvement initiatives, employee benefits, hiring and staffing strategies, training and education and employee engagement.

Over her professional career, Meccariello has gained experience in multiple industries, progressing through increasingly responsible human resource management positions with Bio-Rad Laboratories, Rite Aid Corporation and Lockheed-Martin Corporation. A 23-year U.S. Air Force veteran, she previously served as a personnel officer stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, Calif. Upon retirement from active military duty she continued in service to the country as a member of the USAF Reserves.

Meccariello is a graduate of Chapman University, Concord, Calif., where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in organizational leadership.

A privately-held minority business enterprise, Fremont-based RK Logistics Group is a growing local company providing flexible, responsive logistics services to Silicon Valley manufacturers. The RK network includes facilities throughout the greater Bay Area representing nearly 1 million square feet of commercial distribution space for inventory management, manufacturing support and ecommerce fulfillment. The company also operates the area's only general purpose Foreign Trade Zone, which allows manufacturers to minimize and defer duties and tariffs on imported goods.

RK is also an industry leader in adopting robotics-assisted order picking and fulfillment technologies, and creating special industry-specific programs, such as sequencing parts into lean production lines at automotive and technology equipment factories, and just-in-time (JIT) deliveries to construction sites.

In addition, RK Logistics is a California Board of Pharmacy-certified 3PL, signifying that the company meets or exceeds state requirements for handling medical devices, controlled substances and sensitive diagnostic equipment for pharmaceutical and high-value biomedical device firms. Only two logistics companies in northern California, 16 in the state, and 35 in the entire U.S. have achieved this distinction.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.
