Open Sky Group Clients Experience Award-Winning 2017

Two Receive Industry Awards for Outstanding Results with Warehouse Management Implementations

Open Sky Group Clients Experience Award-Winning 2017

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 17, 2017) - Open Sky Group (Open Sky) is proud to announce an award-winning 2017 for two clients. Both were recognized for outstanding results achieved after implementing the newest versions of JDA Warehouse Management software.

First was a prestigious JDA Real Results Award for Norwex, a provider of chemical-free home care products. Open Sky Group and Norwex worked together on achieving real results for Norwex using JDA's warehouse and warehouse labor management solutions. The implementation of JDA Warehouse Management two months ahead of schedule reaped impressive results, including: a 30 percent reduction in labor requirements in the first 60 days, 40 percent gain in throughput, reduction in the number of lifts needed per shift and a 15 percent reduction in overall inventory footprint.

Supply & Demand Chain Executive awarded Clemens Food Group as one of their "Top 100 Supply Chain Projects" of 2017. Open Sky Group and Clemens worked together on an upgrade to the newest version of JDA Warehouse Management. Clemens, a leading pork producer under the Hatfield brand, handles over a million unique case IDs daily inside their complex, high-volume, FDA regulated operation. The warehouse management system (WMS) was deployed in under six months with a second, highly-automated greenfield site in Coldwater, MI that went online in September. In addition, Clemens was a finalist for a JDA Real Results Award.

"We're proud that the work we've done with Clemens and Norwex involving the rapid implementation of JDA Warehouse Management has brought great gains to both companies and now industry recognition of those results," says Darcy Reeves, vice president of marketing for Open Sky Group. "We're continuing to focus on shortening the time to value for our clients; under six months for every implementation."

"Congratulations to Norwex and Clemens - two customers that are elevating the end-customer experience while driving real results that impact their bottom lines with impressive results," said Greg O'Sullivan, global partner alliances & channels, sales, JDA.

"Our goal with 2017's Top 100 is to shine the spotlight on successful and innovative transformation projects that deliver bottom-line value to small, medium and large enterprises across the supply chain," says Ronnie Garrett, editor of Supply & Demand Chain Executive. "...We congratulate all of our winners for a job well done!"

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
