NeoGrid Receives Fourth Consecutive Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award

Global technology provider recognized for cloud-based solutions that reduce waste through the use of electronic data exchange

NeoGrid Receives Fourth Consecutive Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award

CHICAGO - Dec. 13, 2016 - NeoGrid, a global technology provider of end-to-end supply chain management solutions, has won its fourth consecutive Green Supply Chain Award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive. NeoGrid has been recognized for contributing to the sustainability of the supply chain by providing cloud-based solutions that reduce paper waste through the use of electronic data exchange (EDI).

Gilson Torii, COO, NeoGrid North America, said, "NeoGrid is committed to reducing the consumption of raw materials throughout the supply chain. By implementing a cloud-based supply chain management solution, companies not only optimize their supply chains, but also achieve an immediate reduction in waste as paper-based processes are replaced by using EDI."

The Green Supply Chain Award recognizes companies who make "going green" or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy, and are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains. The awards also recognize providers of supply chain solutions and services assisting their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals.

This year's ninth-annual awards recognize small, mid-size and large enterprises that leveraged green practices and solutions to further drive sustainable improvements in their supply chain.

"Our honorees are showing that the bottom line and corporate responsibility are not mutually exclusive," said Ronnie Garrett, editor of Supply & Demand Chain Executive. "This has been increasingly evident over the past few years and is relatively clear with the large number of entries we received this year—almost 200—for our annual green awards. Sustainability has, for these companies, become a key part of their supply chain strategies."

"Our goal is to honor those companies in our annual awards and credit them with the recognition they deserve," Garrett added. "They have recognized the need for supply chain sustainability, something that's not always easy to do."

The official announcement of the awards will appear in the December 2016 Green Supply Chain Award issue of the magazine and online at www.SDCExec.com.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
