enVista Shares Industry Expertise During Educational Sessions at MODEX 2016

INDIANAPOLIS (March 24, 2016)—enVista, a supply chain consulting firm delivering supply chain strategy, design, build and systems integration expertise, today announces it will share supply chain industry insights during two presentations at MODEX 2016, a conference that brings together leading manufacturing, distribution and supply chain professionals. enVista President and CEO Jim Barnes will present two educational sessions at the show which takes place April 4 - 7 in Atlanta.

WMS vs. WCS vs. WES

Monday, April 4 (12 p.m. - 12: 45 p.m.)
Description: This session will help supply chain leaders determine where and how warehouse management systems (WMS), warehouse control systems (WCS), and warehouse execution systems (WES) fit into a distribution strategy.

How to Apply Lean Principles to a Distribution Center

Tuesday. April 5 (12 p.m. - 12: 45 p.m.)
Description: This presentation will focus on simple Lean techniques that can be implemented to quickly uncover improvement opportunities in the warehouse.

"The lines have become blurred between some of the most common supply chain execution systems - WMS, WCS and WES - making it difficult to determine the best solution approach. I look forward to helping MODEX attendees pinpoint the differences between systems and determine which system, or combination of systems, will best meet their unique needs," said Barnes.

"In my second session, I'll discuss how companies can apply Lean principles to their DCs. Many leaders believe automation is the primary way to remove waste in the warehouse, but that is not always the case. We'll explore some less traditional ways to implement Lean principles."

In addition to presenting, enVista will also exhibit at MODEX. Thought leaders from enVista's supply chain solutions and facility design/build groups will be on hand to walk through enVista's solutions portfolio, customized DC design methodology, and to answer any questions.

Complimentary operational assessments will also be offered at the enVista booth. Attendees that complete an informational survey with an enVista representative at MODEX will receive their free operational assessment in mid to late April.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
