Hapag-Lloyd CCO confirmed as keynote speaker for 8th Cool Logistics Global

January 20, 2016
No Comments

LONDON, 18.01.2016 - Thorsten Haeser, Chief Commercial Officer and Executive Board member of container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, will deliver a keynote speech at the 8th Cool Logistics Global Conference, taking place 27-28 September in Bremen, Germany.

Under the headline theme 'Drilling down to the cold chain economics', the 2016 conference will assess the global cold chain logistics and reefer shipping landscape at a challenging time for world trade and shipping. Key topics will include the reefer trade and shipping outlook, cold chain infrastructure, port logistics developments and a review of perishable commodity chain dynamics, including seafood and related technologies.

Mr. Haeser, who took up his role in October 2015, will talk about 'The role of the shipping line in tomorrow's reefer supply chain.' As Chief Commercial Officer he is in charge of Hapag-Lloyd's global sales activities. He joins the world of container shipping from a career spent mainly in telecoms, having previously been Managing Director of Versatel GmbH and before that held management positions at Sixt AG, Telefonica O2 and VIAG Interkom.

Hapag-Lloyd is one of the world's largest shipping companies, with 9,500 employees at 353 sites in 117 countries. After its merger with Chilean shipping company CSAV in December 2014, Hapag-Lloyd now offers a total slot capacity of almost 1 million TEU, with a container fleet of 1.6 million TEU. In August last year the company announced the largest reefer order in its history, underlining Hapag-Lloyd's position amongst the leading lines with more than 76,000 reefer units in service.

The 8th Cool Logistics Global Conference will build on the success of last year's event, which took place in Bruges and was hosted by Port of Zeebrugge. Among other key topics, the 2015 event discussed the growing logistics gap between ever-larger container vessels and increasing demand for smaller food consignments, an issue that remains just as relevant this year. The conference also touched on how e-commerce is changing the global food landscape, not least in helping to fuel growth in demand for frozen goods, including vegetables. The full 2015 Conference report is available here.

Cool Logistics Global is returning to Germany for the first time in five years and makes its debut in Bremen in 2016, with the full support of Bremenports. The twin ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven form Germany's second largest port complex and handle 78 million tons of containerised, general and bulk cargoes annually, with particular strength in fish and fruit. "We are delighted to be hosting Cool Logistics Global," said Michael Skiba, Head of Marketing for Bremenports. "Bremen, especially the port group of Bremerhaven, is important for perishable goods because we have one of the biggest cold stores in Europe," he added.

"We are pleased to be returning to the vital market of Germany, and to Bremen for the first time ever," said Alex von Stempel, MD of Cool Logistics Resources. "We are also looking forward to welcoming Hapag-Lloyd to the stage for the first time to share views on the road ahead at this demanding, but also exciting, time for the global perishables trade."

The 8th Cool Logistics Global will provide two days packed with high-level debates and tailored sessions on commercial, operational and technical challenges, covering all angles of perishable trade, logistics and temperature-controlled transport.
