On Wednesday afternoon, Lucas Systems, a creator of warehouse productivity solutions for mobile workers and distribution center managers, hosted a presentation titled "Getting Started with AI and Machine Learning for Improved Warehouse Management." The session provided an overview of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning (ML) technology, discussed emerging uses for ML in the warehouse, and offered suggestions on ways companies can get started with the technology.
Lucas has been working closely with customers to create a cloud-based add-on machine-learning platform to help with labor planning and slotting capabilities. Machine learning uses current and historical data from work execution software, mobile applications, and other sources of operational data, including warehouse management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, and order management systems. Multiple algorithms analyze the data to discern patterns and to create operational models that can be used to predict requirements and to proactively manage inventory, labor, and other distribution center resources.
The company expects to release its machine-learning platform by the end of this year.
