Fleet management and transportation giant Ryder System Inc. is continuing to build out its services beyond basic truck rental, saying yesterday that it had named a new chief technology officer and charged him with leading the company's development of autonomous vehicles, predictive analytics, and asset-sharing.
Miami-based Ryder said Rich Mohr has been named vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) for Ryder Fleet Management Solutions. Most recently, Rich had led Ryder Truck Rental as its vice president and global product manager.
Mohr will now be responsible for leading the development and execution of Ryder's new products, electric and autonomous vehicle initiatives, connected fleet strategy, predictive data & analytics for maintenance, and its peer-to-peer vehicle-sharing app, COOP By Ryder.
Launched in 2018, COOP is an asset-sharing platform that allows businesses to lend and borrow underutilized commercial vehicles within a network of trusted peers. Ryder recently expanded the service from Atlanta into South Florida and expects to roll it out further in coming months.
Mohr will also be responsible for the Ryder Mobile Maintenance fleet of fully-equipped vehicles, where Ryder delivers preventative maintenance and warranty work whenever and wherever customer trucks are idle, increasing vehicle uptime and customer satisfaction while decreasing predictable maintenance costs, Ryder said.
