Logistics systems integrator Dematic this week introduced a software platform that allows companies to simulate and visualize the impact of adding automated logistics systems to their warehouses.
Dematic iQ Virtual is an emulation and simulation platform that allows users to thoroughly explore a proposed system configuration in a virtual environment, according to Atlanta-based Dematic, a unit of lift truck and supply chain solution vendor Kion Group.
The virtual emulation model uses graphic-rendering technology to accurately portray labor productivity, inventory flow and the efficiency of material handling automation, Dematic said March 15.
"The emulation software allows users to be immersed into the automated warehouse environment with a three-dimensional perspective view or with a walk-through of the virtual warehouse using a virtual reality headset," Scott Wahl, vice president of the Dematic Software Center of Excellence, said in a release.
Through a connection to the firm's Dematic iQ Optimize Warehouse Execution Software (WES), the virtual emulation model can verify efficient system operation, confirm functionality of the software integration, and determine how the system will perform during a variety of operating conditions. That allows users to evaluate various "what if" scenarios in engineering improvements to both production and distribution logistics systems, the company said.
