The Rhenus Group is expanding in Canada with its acquisition of customized logistics solutions specialist Rodair Group, the company said this week.

The Germany-based global logistics provider said the deal is a key step in establishing its own logistics network in Canada. Toronto-based Rodair specializes in international freight forwarding, project logistics, courier services, warehousing and distribution, third-party logistics services, and e-commerce solutions. With locations in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver, Rodair serves customers in fashion, retail, automotive, pharmaceutical and mining industries, Rhenus officials said.

The acquisition also provides Rhenus with experienced employees for its Air & Ocean business unit at Rhenus Freight Logistics, according to Jörn Schmersahl, the company's CEO, Air & Ocean Americas.

Rhenus has 610 locations worldwide and 29,000 employees. The company specializes in contract logistics, freight logistics and port logistics.
