DDC FPO applies artificial intelligence to freight billing

Business process outsourcing (BPO) service provider DDC FPO said Monday it unveiled a less-than-truckload (LTL) billing solution that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help carriers boost their productivity levels, billing accuracy, and cost savings.

DDC FPO said its DDC Intelligence product is a customizable solution that streamlines the complicated task of freight billing. The product uses AI to apply unstructured, context-based recognition tools to study bills of lading (BOLs) instead of following the traditional rules-based approach, the company said.

The product processes documents pulled from scans, emails, faxes, and other sources, then examines their content to classify and sort them, extracts data from a variety of fields, and reconciles that data against other sources to ensure its accuracy, the firm says. Finally, the system exports that data and integrates it into other enterprise software applications to be used in the next stage of business processes, according to the company.

"DDC FPO's mission...is to serve carriers and logistics companies in reducing costs and improving operational efficiencies, so that our clients may focus on their core competencies," DDC FPO President Art Zipkin said in a statement. "DDC Intelligence is the latest solution in our suite of services that carries this mission forward."

DDC FPO is based in Evergreen, Colo. It unveiled its platform at the SMC3 annual winter meeting in Atlanta.
