The nation's ports continue to handle record cargo volume as 2019 comes to a close. The Port of New York and New Jersey is one of the most recent ports to post strong results, handling 666,381 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in October, a 1.2% increase over the year-ago period and a new record for the month, port officials said in late November.
The October numbers represent the third largest monthly cargo volume in the port's history, officials also said. Through the first 10 months of 2019 the port handled more than 6 million TEUs, a 5% increase compared with the year-ago level and another record-setting period. The port's ExpressRail system also hit an October high, handling 57,722 containers, a 1% increase compared with October 2018.
