Descartes launches advanced analytics solution

Logistics software provider offers "out-of-the-box" analysis and reporting solution.

Canadian logistics software provider Descartes Systems Group has added an advanced analysis and reporting solution to its suite of offerings, the company said Tuesday.

Descartes Analytics is designed to help customers leverage data contained within Descartes' solutions, the company said. It uses Microsoft Power BI with Descartes standard integration, data models, dashboards, and reporting templates, and helps users quickly gain greater insight into their logistics and supply chain operations. The tool allows users to customize their configuration and reporting, and it also supports integration to third parties, Descartes said.

The initial launch supports use with the following Descartes solutions:

  • Routing, mobile, and telematics
  • Transportation management
  • Descartes MacroPoint
  • Descartes Datamyne
  • Descartes Aljex.

Company leaders referred to Descartes Analytics as an "out-of-the-box" analytics tool that can give companies greater insight into their supply chain operations.

"There is a tremendous amount of additional value our customers can unlock by better understanding the data our solutions create or capture," Ken Wood, executive vice president, product management at Descartes, said in announcing the launch. "Using Microsoft Power BI, our goal was to develop an 'out-of-the-box' analytics solution that is very powerful yet cost effective and allows us to focus on leveraging our deep logistics and supply chain expertise."

Business optimism is up as inflation fades

Global business leaders are feeling optimistic, according to a report from business data analytics firm Dun & Bradstreet showing a 7% increase in business optimism quarter-over-quarter, driven by gradual easing of inflation rates and favorable borrowing conditions.

However, that trend is counterbalanced by economic uncertainty driven by geopolitics, which is prompting many companies to diversity their supply chains, Dun & Bradstreet said in its “Q4 2024 Global Business Optimism Insights” report, which was based on research conducted during the third quarter.
