Crown Equipment Corp. now offers a fuel cell version of its PC 4500 Series center-control pallet truck. The new unit, which can accommodate Plug Power GenDrive fuel cells, incorporates the controls and gauges for the fuel cell into the truck's dashboard for operator convenience. Normally, these controls and gauges are located on the fuel cell and require the operator to stop operation to access the control box and check the fuel cell's status.
The other significant design modification to the fuel cell version of the PC 4500 is the placement of the fuel cell power unit behind the operator. With the standard pallet truck, the battery box is located directly below the steering control. But many fuel cell packs have a taller profile than a battery, making it difficult to fit them below the steering control without creating safety and performance issues. Relocating them to the rear of the vehicle avoids these problems.
The Crown PC 4500, which can operate in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees F, offers the same features and benefits as the standard model, including power steering, Access 1 2 3 technology, and the ergonomically designed X10 handle.
