Glacier Computer, a designer, developer, and supplier of rugged industrial computers, has added the Ridgeline CE to its line of harsh environment hardware. This rugged, small industrial computer is the first in the Glacier line to operate on the Windows CE platform.
The computer is designed to be mounted on lift trucks and other vehicles. The Ridgeline CE's small housing allows it to be used in locations that cannot be served by traditional 10- and 12-inch units. With its compact design, this unit can be ergonomically mounted onto forklifts and other material handling equipment or any other small space that is convenient to the mobile worker.
The Ridgeline CE has a 5.75-inch, bright color LCD display, touch-screen, IP 65 sealed enclosure, solid-state drive, and programmable function buttons. Its five large "soft keys" can be programmed with functions that correspond to the relevant working process. The illuminated backlit keypad allows operators to work in poor ambient light, and the crystal-clear video graphics array (VGA) of 640 x 480 pixels reduces eyestrain. The computer has an integrated 802.11 b/g radio and an internal DC power converter, which allow it to be mounted in an array of vehicles.
Four LEDs indicate the operating condition of the unit and facilitate the diagnosis of errors. The interfaces are protected against moisture by a flap that is equipped with a pull relief to protect the cabling against damage caused by rough usage. Software applications are easily loaded and take advantage of the VGA display choices, as well as portrait and landscape modes.
