Navis and Tianjin Port Group Sign Memorandum of Understanding

October 31, 2018
No Comments

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and provider of operational technologies and services that unlock greater performance and efficiency for the world's leading organizations across the shipping supply chain, announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China-based Tianjin Port Group, currently the world's largest terminal complex on N4.

As part of the MOU, Navis and Tianjin Port Group will join forces to accelerate technology innovation within Tianjin Port as it moves towards automation. From the development of a future Smart Port project to joint collaboration on technology adoption and service support, Navis and Tianjin Port Group are well positioned to create a new industry-standard for terminal operations excellence.

The strategic relationship comes on the heels of the fastest N4 implementation on record in Navis' 30-year history. In less than eight months, Tianjin Port Group transitioned its six terminals—each operating different TOS technologies and system versions—to N4 across the entire port complex. With the project completed, Tianjin Port Group will use N4 to move approximately 15 million TEU annually.

"We are extremely proud of our record-breaking N4 implementation. While many factors contributed to the project's success, we recognized the powerful results that were achieved when Tianjin Port and Navis teams came together with a common goal in mind," said Zhang Ruigang, Chairman of Tianjin Port Group. "The MOU agreement signals our commitment to working with an industry leader like Navis to achieve rapid innovation and make our operational goals, including automation, a reality."

"Tianjin's unique, high-volume operating environment enables us to maximize N4's potential in new ways," said Benoit de la Tour, President of Navis. "Following the TOS go-lives, it became clear that we were only just beginning to scratch the surface of what we could achieve together. Entering into an MOU agreement with Tianjin was a natural next step, and we are eager to push the boundaries of transformative terminal operations and automation alongside a partner who shares our vision for the future."
