Peapod teams up with AIMMS to deploy analytics Apps across multiple supply chain functions

The leading US online grocer is embracing AIMMS supply chain analytics technology to support its warehouse operations and S&OP process.

The partnership will enable Peapod to roll out analytics Apps across several supply chain functions using the AIMMS SC Navigator platform.

Peapod saw an immediate opportunity to enhance productivity service levels in their warehouses. To do this, they are building a custom solution for product placement optimization on the AIMMS platform with the help of Districon, an AIMMS implementation partner. Peapod has 4 warehouse fulfillment centers and 21 warerooms that are attached to a physical store. They operate under a centralized distribution model to provide next-day delivery in 24 U.S. markets throughout Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin. Peapod has great control and visibility over inventory and logistics using this model. The use of AIMMS-based optimization will help them further exceed customer expectations.

Peapod is looking to self-enable their expert supply chain team with advanced analytics. To achieve this, Peapod has opted-in for a 3-year subscription of the AIMMS SC Navigator platform. The platform offers a configurable suite of Apps that run on AIMMS' trusted mathematical optimization engine. One of the SC Navigator Apps being explored first will the S&OP app, supporting Peapod's Sales & Operations Planning processes, facilitating more collaboration and scenario modeling with prescriptive analytics.

"Peapod is excited to partner with AIMMS and Districon to create the ideal custom-made solution for our warehouse optimization analytics, as well as jointly exploring the possibilities of supporting our S&OP processes through AIMMS' SC Navigator suite of applications" according to Daniël van Gool, Peapod's Director of Supply Chain Development

"We are thrilled that Peapod has chosen AIMMS SC Navigator to democratize analytics throughout the supply chain and look forward to working together over the next three years," said AIMMS VP North America Chris Gordon.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
