GREEN BAY, Wis. (July 21, 2016) — It's not always easy keeping one foot in a civilian shoe and the other in a military boot, but Jack Copeland, director of regional maintenance at Schneider, understands what it takes to lead those who work while also serving our country in the National Guard or Reserve. As a result of his military understanding and mentorship, Copeland was recently honored with the prestigious Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve's (ESGR) Patriotic Employer Award.
This award is presented to a service member's boss, and it reflects the efforts his or her supervisor makes to support Reservists and Guardsmen. The honor takes into account the following measures: schedule flexibility, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Copeland is an Air Force veteran with 20 years of service and has worked at Schneider since 1998, where he is accountable for vehicle equipment maintenance. Copeland ensures shops are running efficiently while also managing more than 300 technicians. Copeland was nominated by Twanice Willis, who is active with the Marine Reserves and shop supervisor for Reserve, Louisiana.
"Jack has always been a fair and consistent leader," Willis stated. "I was deployed recently and he stayed in communication with me the entire time. He has been an excellent mentor and has made it an effortless transition for me."
