Flexibility is the name of the game for Kardex Remstar's new redesigned horizontal carousel, according to Mark Dunaway, vice president of new business, Americas.
Kardex Remstar has revamped its carousel so that it is more modular. Previously the carousel was custom designed. Now, however, it comes with standardized end (or nose) sections (where workers pick orders from the carousel) and a choice of three different standard intermediate sections. This allows the carousel to be both manufactured and shipped faster, particularly as the units can be stocked and shipped from locations in the United States, as opposed to the manufacturing facility in Germany.
The simplified design also makes the carousels easier to install and adjust. As customers' facilities change, the modular systems can be moved and rearranged to fit new layouts. Additionally, the spacing between the rods that the carriers or shelves hook onto has decreased, which gives customers more configuration options for the carriers or shelves.
