Dematic has designed a new goods-to-person order fulfillment system that can bring split-case items to an operator and enables pick rates of up to 1,000 items per hour.
The RapidPick System, which Dematic introduced on Monday at ProMat in Chicago, consists of an operator workstation that receives containers, or "donor totes" from a storage or staging area, such as the Dematic Multishuttle. The operator then picks the split-case items from the donor tote into an order container, which is also brought to the workstation by the system.
The system can be designed to bring six or more order totes into position to be filled from the donor tote. The ergonomically designed system also can raise or lower the operator to a comfortable position for picking.
The system allows items to be sequenced in a specified order, such as by family group or heavy items first, fragile items last. It also can accommodate totes and containers of different sizes and allows the operator to pick directly into shipping containers.
Dematic, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., provides a range of intelligent logistics and materials handling solutions.
