RapidPick automated goods-to-person system

Dematic has introduced RapidPick, a new high-capacity, goods-to-person order-fulfillment system that brings split case items to an operator and allows pick rates of up to 1,000 items per hour.

RapidPick brings containers of items from a staging or storage area, such as the Dematic Multishuttle, to a workstation, where an operator can then pick items from the staging or storage container into an order container. The RapidPick workstation accommodates totes and/or cartons of different sizes and facilitates picking directly into the shipping container. The operator stays in one place while items are delivered to the pick station in a precise sequence, such as heavy items first, fragile items last. The operator receives instructions on how many of what types of items to pick from an operator interface screen, which uses large fonts and color.

The system helps improve picking efficiency by eliminating the travel time needed for an operator to get to a dedicated SKU pick face in the warehouse and the need for slotting and re-slotting. It takes less than one second for one tote to replace another, meaning that the operator does not have to wait for a new SKU. RapidPick also allows high pick accuracy as only one SKU is presented to the operator at a time, says Dematic.

RapidPick is also ergonomic, says Dematic. The operator can raise or lower the workstation's adjustable height platform to create a comfortable and effective working position for him or her. In normal operation, the operator does not need to move hands above the shoulder or extend arms beyond a comfortable reach.
