A new program developed by CSCMP and some members' companies and universities aims to bring a new level of professional development recognition to supply chain management professionals. Unveiled at last week's annual conference, the program provides a framework that companies can adopt to initiate their own internal professional development recognition programs.
Modeled after similar programs developed by CSCMP members who work at companies like Intel and IBM, the new program addresses a need that CSCMP Director of Education and Research Kathleen Hedland says has become clear for an industry-wide, formal recognition program for excellence in the supply chain profession.
Her staff, in concert with members representing both private business and academia, has developed a step-by-step program that outlines the skill set and professional development activities needed to attain special recognition as a supply chain professional.
Hedland explained at a special session unveiling the new program that although it is not a formal certification program, the certification could be granted by companies that adopt the program. Those companies will have the option of tailoring the program to meet specific needs.
