UPS Canada has begun construction of a $200 million, 850,000 square-foot facility in Caledon, Ontario, to meet growing business and residential demand in Greater Toronto, the company said this month.
UPS said the small package operations hub will feature advanced scanning and sortation technology as well as data-driven tools to increase efficiency and reliability. The fully automated facility will sort up to 35,000 packages per hour and house a fleet of more than 200 package cars; it is expected to open in late 2020, according to UPS.
The new facility is part of a $500 million plan to expand and enhance UPS' facilities across Canada. Construction of a $125-million, 180,000 square-foot expansion to the company's Montreal hub is almost complete, the company said. On November 2, UPS unveiled its new $15 million, 40,000 square-foot facility in Kanata, Ontario, and the company also has expanded its package centers in Brampton and London, Ontario and Edmonton, Alberta.
