TrueCommerce and Shopify integrate e-commerce platforms

Logistics software provider TrueCommerce has integrated its systems with the e-commerce platform Shopify, a combination that offers merchants a single screen for synching all their commerce channels with their business systems and supply chain networks, the firms said July 11.

The combined platform addresses retailers' growing need to offer a streamlined omnichannel shopping experience by retooling their supply chains, TrueCommerce President Ross Elliott said in a statement. Until 2017, TrueCommerce was a sister company to supply chain technology vendor HighJump Software Inc., but was spun off as an independent business when German logistics technology provider Körber AG acquired HighJump.

By linking the TrueCommerce and Shopify platforms, retailers can integrate online orders placed directly on the Shopify storefront with orders placed by national retailers or through digital marketplaces, according to a July 17 TrueCommerce blog post. As a result, users can keep their inventory synchronized in real-time, receive tracking information and order confirmations, integrate Shopify orders with many accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and fulfill those orders through TrueCommerce's network of dropship vendors and third party logistics providers (3PLs).

While Shopify merchants had already been capable of integrating their commerce channels with their business systems for e-commerce conducted on the Shopify platform, the integration now allows them to extend that capability to sales conducted with their business-to-business (B2B) wholesale relationships transacted through means beyond the Shopify storefront, Mike Gross, TrueCommerce's vice president for global product strategy and development, said in an email. "As Shopify merchants expand into other channels that are not transacted through the Shopify storefront, TrueCommerce can help merchants with the connectivity, integration, and compliance requirements encountered when selling into larger retail accounts and marketplaces such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, and others," Gross said.

In the past, Shopify has also integrated its platform with logistics providers like UPS Inc., allowing small merchants that use Shopify to manage their online and brick-and-mortar stores to offer the same fulfillment, shipping, and tracking tools used by their major e-commerce rivals. The TrueCommerce integration extends that concept to a wider array of supply chain software tools.
