Cargo theft prevention group CargoNet released a software tool today that the company says identifies the risk of theft at any location by visually mapping the company's data onto users' custom-built routes across North America.
The RouteSearch tool is an upgrade to the Jersey City, N.J.-based company's existing product, which is a database of supply chain cargo crime and fraud-prevention information.
CargoNet members can now use RouteSearch to create custom maps of their trucking routes in order to prevent cargo theft, the company said. Customers can add detailed loss information by adjusting the radius and date range of theft data, then make that map more precise by adding layers of truck stop locations, zooming in to a street-level plot, switching to satellite view, or filtering by commodity, according to CargoNet.
CargoNet, a division of the Verisk Crime Analytics unit at risk assessment firm Verisk Analytics Inc., said it provides the information from its national database and information-sharing system, which is managed by crime analysts and subject matter experts. The company uses that platform to provide recovery support, deterrence measures, and coordinated real-time communications between theft victims and law-enforcement agents.
