July's rock contest winner revealed

Cover of Lou Reed's Rock and Roll Heart album
July's song title came from Lou Reed's 1976 album Rock and Roll Heart.

This month's winner in our "DCV Rocks" contest was Kathleen Tsukamoto of the U.S. Postal Service. She was one of several readers who guessed that the July rock reference was "Follow the leader(s)," the headline of David Maloney's BigPicture column on page 13 of that issue. It recalls Lou Reed's song "Follow the leader," a jazzy/funky cut from his 1976 album Rock and Roll Heart. Although the album was dismissed as mediocre and lightweight by some critics, it does have some ardent fans among the public. Reed had also performed "Follow the leader" as more of a psychedelic jam with the Velvet Underground in the '60s.

August-issue deadline is today

In the August issue, there are two headlines that allude to song titles. You only need to guess one of them to be included in the drawing for a coffee sampler from Joey Kramer's Rockin' & Roastin' Organic Coffee. Send your guesses to dcvrocks@dcvelocity.com by midnight Pacific time today, Sept. 15. For hints, turn to the TOC in our August print edition (page 9), in our digital version, or in our mobile app.
