Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. today announced two top-level promotions as it reorganized its executive suite following the death on Dec. 30 of John B. Yowell, who had been the trucker's executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Cecil "Chip" E. Overbey was promoted to senior vice president of marketing, pricing, and strategic development, Old Dominion said. Overbey had been vice president of national accounts and marketing. Kevin M. "Marty" Freeman, who had been vice president of field sales, was named senior vice president of sales.
Greg S. Gantt, senior vice president of operations, will assume additional duties in the areas of corporate and field services, the Thomasville, N.C.-based carrier said. All three, who had reported to Yowell, will now report to David S. Congdon, Old Dominion's president and CEO.
Yowell was 59. The company would not provide any details other than to say his passing was "unexpected."
