Crude-oil futures continued their upward move Wednesday, rising 1 percent to hit their highest closing level since October 2008.
The price of the commodity so vital to transport interests gained $1.09 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange to close Wednesday's trading at $87.81 a barrel.
Traders bid oil futures higher after a U.S. government report showed a surprise decline in oil inventories.
