Ask senior leaders in supply chain management about demographics, and they're likely to talk about the shortage of young people entering the field. Spreading the word about careers in the discipline is a top priority for just about everyone.
DC VELOCITY salutes the efforts of Declan McNulty, who is stepping up to the task. The second-grader will lead a "show and tell" session for classmates at the Wolf Trap Elementary School in Vienna, Va., this month. The small group discussion will use our July 2008 "Rainmakers" issue as a teaching tool, highlighting the extraordinary achievements and contributions of leaders in our field. And maybe, just maybe, students will come out of that session thinking about supply chain management as a possible career.
Declan knows something about that himself: His grandfather, Earl Boyanton, is assistant deputy undersecretary of defense for transportation policy in the U.S. Department of Defense and was profiled in this year's Rainmakers edition.
Something tells us we might be profiling Declan someday. He's still young, but we're going to keep an eye on him.
