  • BMW of North America is expanding its U.S. distribution network. The automaker, which currently has regional parts distribution centers in Mississippi, Florida, and California, will build two new facilities in Lower Nazareth, Pa., and Minooka, Ill. Together, the new DCs will serve 275 BMW and MINI dealers in the Northeast and Midwest.
  • Ozburn-Hessey Logistics has leased a new facility in Mississauga, Ontario. The building is located in the Heartland Industrial Park, about 15 minutes from the Toronto International Airport.
  • The Ports America Group has purchased the Maritime District site in Bayonne, N.J., for $90 million. The group plans to develop the 153-acre site into an automotive import-export facility. When it opens this summer, the facility is expected to employ about 400 workers.
  • Recreational Equipment Inc., a retail cooperative specializing in outdoor clothing and gear, has opened a new 525,000-square-foot distribution center in Bedford, Pa. The new facility serves 42 stores from Boston to Atlanta as well as the retailer's direct-to-consumer business.
  • The Allen Group has started construction on the first two warehouse and distribution facilities at the Dallas Logistics Hub, a 6,000-acre industrial park. Combined, the two buildings will offer 827,000 square feet of distribution space. They are due for completion by April.
  • Mattel is opening a new European distribution center in Venlo, the Netherlands. The toy maker has signed a fiveyear agreement with third-party logistics service specialist Geodis to manage the facility, which is expected to open at the end of March.
  • Kroger has signed a deal for a 552,000-square-foot distribution facility near Los Angeles. The building, which is located in Paramount, will service 369 of Kroger's Ralphs and Food 4 Less stores. It is expected to begin operations during the third quarter of this year.
  • Home improvement retailer Lowe's has begun construction on a new 200,000-square-foot flatbed distribution center in Purvis, Miss. The $15 million facility will supply building materials to more than 60 stores in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana.
