A new computer-based tool developed by a unit of the Material Handling Industry of America is designed to help managers evaluate various warehouse automation options. Called "Throughput Models for Carousels and Vertical Lift Modules," the tool was created to help users determine how to maximize their warehouse space and personnel using the latest automated storage and retrieval systems.
Accessible via a networked PC or laptop computer, the program takes users through a series of questions and allows them to compare the number of units, floor space and manhours required to accommodate the facility's needs. According to MHIA, the tool, which can evaluate horizontal and vertical carousels and vertical lift modules, can be used to solve questions in specific work areas and zones or determine total facility requirements.
The tool is free for downloading on the MHIA Bookstore site at www.mhia.org/bs/cvlm. It can also be purchased on CD-ROM for $19.95 via the online bookstore or by calling the MHIA Literature Department at (800) 345-1815 or (704) 676-1190.
