Re: "just when you think things are getting better …," Inbound (February 2007)
I'm a professional over-the-road truck driver who's been in the business for 24 years and who does podcasting from my big rig. One of my listeners recently sent me your story on the American Trucking Associations' report on the rising turnover rate among drivers for truckload carriers and the growing driver shortage.
As someone who's been sitting in Augusta, Ga., since yesterday waiting for a load, I have to say I don't see where the shortage is. From where I sit, there are too many drivers and too many trucks on the road already. It seems like someone started this rumor and you guys keep spinning it. If there truly were a shortage, freight would be more plentiful and it would pay better.
