DHL has announced plans for a new service center at the Salt Lake City International Airport. The $4.3 million investment includes construction of a 62,000-square-foot facility and surrounding areas for pickup, delivery and sorting operations. Currently, packages are offloaded at the airport and shuttled to a processing center in West Valley City, Utah. Those operations will be consolidated into the new service center once it opens in August. The new facility will handle a variety of shipments, including domestic and international parcels, as well as palletized and containerized freight.
ProLogis, one of the world's biggest industrial developers, is expanding ProLogis Park Lodi, an industrial park outside Milan. The 2.37 million-square-foot park, which is already the company's largest industrial park in Italy, will grow even bigger with the lease of 120,000 square feet to Alvi S.r.l., an Italian distributor of food and other products. Construction of a seventh distribution building is now under way as well. That 467,000square-foot building is expected to be completed within the next few months.
Sara Lee Food & Beverage is building a new 214,000-squarefoot distribution center in the I-75 Business Park in Macon, Ga. The Tippmann Group of Fort Wayne, Ind., is building the DC, which will initially employ up to 100 workers with another 40 added within the first year. The new facility is set to begin operations in August.
