Contract railcar switching services

RailAmerica, an owner and operator of regional and short-line railroads, has launched a new contract-switching business to serve industrial customers. With contract switching, operations that have a continuous need for railcar handling engage a third-party supplier to move railcars into, out of, and within a manufacturing or distribution facility. In addition to railcar switching, the new business, RailAmerica Contract Switching Services (RACS), offers track maintenance, railcar and locomotive repairs, and railcar cleaning.

With its broad geographic reach, RACS can supply on-site staff and equipment quickly and efficiently, decreasing the cost of transporting locomotives, equipment, and personnel, the company says. RailAmerica also offers easy access to mechanical facilities that furnish equipment and make necessary repairs.
