MINNEAPOLIS — (Sept. 15, 2016) — Richard T. Murphy, Jr. FASLA, president and CEO of Murphy Warehouse Company, has been named to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's inaugural list of Most Admired CEOs, as well as Pollen Midwest and AARP Minnesota's first "50 Over 50" leaders.
As a Most Admired CEO, Murphy was honored for making outstanding contributions to his business, industry and the community. As a 50 Over 50 award winner, Murphy was recognized as a lifelong learner and business leader who continues to make significant contributions.
The 50 Over 50 award reads, in part: "A true renaissance man, lifelong learner Richard Murphy Jr., 64, has not only enjoyed multiple careers - as a landscape architect, teacher, business executive, amateur photographer, mentor, and industry and community leader - he has also managed to integrate them all, thanks in part to his position as president and CEO of Murphy Warehouse Company."
Both awards recognize Murphy for growing his fourth-generation family business, serving as an industry leader, and embracing environmental sustainability as a smart business strategy. Under his leadership, the company has dedicated itself to green practices throughout its 2.9 million square feet of warehouse space, dotting its campuses with native prairies, populating its roofs with solar panels, installing energy-efficient LED lighting and earning LEED Gold and Energy Star certifications. He also has been an adjunct professor of landscape architecture at the University of Minnesota College of Design for more than 25 years.
"Throughout our family's 112 years in business, we have been blessed to work in wonderful communities. So we are proud and honored to give back to our communities in a meaningful way," said Murphy. "I'm truly humbled to be honored with both of these awards."
