Westfalia Technologies Inc. is showcasing its new warehouse execution system (WES), Savanna.NET, at the ProMat show in Chicago this week. WES is a fairly recent term for software that knits together a warehouse management system (WMS) and a warehouse control system (WCS) into a single application.
The key advantage of using a WES over a combined WMS and WCS is that it eliminates the need for integration, a process that can often be quite complex, says Dave Williams, Westfalia's director of software development. It also simplifies training and support as everyone learns the same system.
Westfalia's Savanna.NET arose out of the company's experience creating a WCS for its own automated storage and retrieval system. The software directs, controls, and optimizes internal material flow and order picking, and displays performance data for the various pieces of automated equipment involved in the process.
