German material handling giant Kion Group AG will begin construction of an industrial truck factory in northwestern Poland this year, the company said today.
Located in Kolbaskowo, near Szczecin in Poland, the state-of-the art factory will produce Linde counterbalance trucks for loads up to 3.5 tonnes, including models currently manufactured in Aschaffenburg, Germany, and Xiamen, China, company officials said. Covering about 44.5 acres, the site will include a production facility, research and development center, and an administrative center. The new plant will complement Kion Group's existing facilities across Europe, officials said
"The new site in the heart of Europe will allow us to make further inroads into this fast-moving, high-potential market," Gordon Riske, Kion Group CEO said in a statement. "The location near the German-Polish border has the additional benefit of easy access to an excellent network of suppliers."
Kion Group is investing approximately $66 million (60 million euros) in the project. Construction will begin this fall, and the company said it expects the site to be up and running in early 2021. The new facility is expected to create 150 jobs by 2023, officials said.
