Cargo volume through the Port of Los Angeles rose nearly 6 percent in June and for its fiscal year ended June 30, port officials said today.
The port moved 764,777 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the month, up 5.8 percent compared to a year ago, and ended the year with roughly 9.7 million TEUs, up 5.7 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. This marks the port's busiest June on record as well as its busiest 12-month period, officials said.
June imports increased 3.5 percent to 396,307 TEUs compared to the previous year. Exports decreased 5.6 percent to 139,318 TEUs while empty containers increased 19 percent to 229,153 TEUs. Six months into 2019, overall volumes have increased 5.3 percent compared to 2018, when the Port set an all-time cargo record, officials said.
