Transportation and logistics service provider Pilot Freight Services Inc. said today it has acquired Manna Freight Systems Inc., a final mile logistics provider whose services will allow Pilot to provide delivery and installation of oversized items such as furniture and appliances.
The move allows Lima, Pa.-based Pilot to supplement its existing service in final mile delivery in the "heavy and hard to handle" category of e-commerce, which is seeing exponential growth, Pilot President and CCO John Hill said in a statement.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Manna, of Mendota Heights, Minn., will contribute its network, technology solutions, and expertise in final mile delivery, which supports nationwide home delivery of large consumer products including furniture, mattresses, fitness equipment, TVs, adjustable beds, and major appliances, the firm said.
Following the deal, Pilot will grow its domestic final mile footprint from 71 to 83 locations and will implement Manna's technology solutions, increasing efficiency and transparency through truck dispatching, order management, and real-time route optimization, the company said.
